A lot of clients come in asking about resurfacing — specifically, they want to know whether there's something that can improve their skin texture and address the fine lines and scarring they've been watching accumulate without requiring a week of downtime. That's a reasonable question, and it's one I can actually answer with something concrete. Opus Plasma® skin resurfacing in Yuma is what we reach for most often when that conversation comes up.
Here's what I want to walk you through: what Opus Plasma® is (and what it isn't), how the technology works, what a realistic treatment experience looks like, and how to know whether you're a good candidate.
This is the first thing I want to clear up, because the confusion is everywhere. Opus Plasma® is not a laser. Calling it a laser — or letting clients assume it behaves like one — misrepresents how it works and sets the wrong expectations.
Opus Plasma® is a fractional device that delivers plasma energy combined with radiofrequency into the skin. Plasma is ionized gas — a state of matter that exists when energy is applied to air at a precise intensity. The device generates thousands of tiny plasma sparks, each creating a microscopic treatment column in the skin. Radiofrequency energy reinforces that signal at depth. The result is a controlled, precise delivery of energy that triggers your skin's collagen-remodeling response — without the full-surface ablation of older resurfacing technologies.
The distinction matters clinically, not just semantically. Laser resurfacing and plasma + RF resurfacing interact with tissue differently. They have different downtime profiles, different risk considerations by skin type, and different settings relevant to Fitzpatrick classification. When we discuss whether Opus Plasma® is appropriate for your skin, we're accounting for all of those variables — not just going by what sounds familiar.
Fractional treatments — whether laser-based or plasma-based — share a core principle: rather than treating the entire surface of the skin, they treat a fraction of it at once, leaving untreated tissue columns between the treated zones. Those untreated areas are what make healing faster. Your skin repairs the treated columns while the surrounding tissue provides the scaffolding for that repair.
With Opus Plasma®, each treatment column receives plasma energy at the surface and radiofrequency energy at depth. Your skin responds the way it responds to any controlled micro-injury — with a wound-healing cascade that includes new collagen and elastin formation. Over time and across a series of sessions, that collagen remodeling softens the appearance of fine lines, improves overall texture, and can reduce the visibility of superficial scarring.
The American Society for Dermatologic Surgery describes fractional resurfacing as one of the most studied categories of energy-based skin treatment, specifically for its ability to stimulate dermal remodeling while managing recovery time. That principle applies here — and it's why fractional approaches have largely displaced full-field resurfacing for most clients seeking texture and tone improvement without extended downtime.
A topical numbing cream is applied before the procedure and allowed to take effect — typically 30 to 45 minutes. The treatment itself is performed by a clinician at Enhance under the medical direction of Marina Roloff, DNP, FNP-C. Most clients describe a warm, prickly sensation during the session. Treatment time varies depending on the area covered.
Immediately after, the skin will look pink or red and may feel like a mild sunburn. Tiny bronze or brown dots — the treatment columns — appear at the surface over the first day or two. This is not a one-treatment result. Collagen remodeling takes time — the American Academy of Dermatology notes that collagen synthesis continues for months following skin injury — and most clients see continued improvement over a series of sessions spaced four to six weeks apart. The goal is cumulative, meaningful improvement in how the skin looks and feels. Individual results vary.
I want to be straightforward about this: Opus Plasma® is not appropriate for every skin type, and I would not be doing my job if I glossed over that.
Fitzpatrick skin type — a clinical classification scale that describes how skin responds to UV exposure and to energy-based treatments — is one of the most important variables in resurfacing candidacy. Higher Fitzpatrick skin types (IV through VI) carry an increased risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation following energy-based treatments. That doesn't mean resurfacing is off the table for everyone in those categories, but it does mean the conversation has to include that risk, and treatment parameters have to account for it.
